DONALD DRUMMOND ST. JOHN (published on July 25, 2009)



DONALD DRUMMOND ST. JOHN 1926 - 2009 Died peacefully in Minnedosa after a difficult illness. Don was born, raised, and lived nearly all of his life in Minnedosa. He went to school in Minnedosa, and subsequently enlisted in the PPCLI. After the war, he attended law school at the University of Manitoba and was called to the bar in 1950. He returned to Minnedosa to practice law with his father at St. John and St. John Law Office, which provided dedicated legal service to Minnedosa, Erickson and Rapid City for nearly a century. He was an active member of the Law Society of Manitoba, and was the President of that organization in 1970-71. He was a life bencher, of the Law Society and was appointed Queen's Council in 1965. Don was a member of Rotary, and past President of the Minnedosa Rotary Club. He was a lifelong supporter of liberalism and the Liberal Party. Don was an enthusiastic golfer and had a particular love for the back nine holes at Clear Lake. He won the Championship at the Wasagaming Annual Golf Tournament in 1958. He also loved walking, cycling, reading, and music. He camped every summer in Banff for many years. He was a dedicated father and devoted husband. He is survived by his wife Valerie, his children, Elaine and John, Ian and Ashley, Philip and Christie; and his grandchildren, Brendan, Kalani, Hattie, Kai, Catherine and Elizabeth. He will be greatly missed. His family would like to thank the physicians, nurses, and other care providers who cared for him over the years. In particular, we would like to thank the staff at the Minnedosa Hospital and Personal Care Home and the Sandy Lake Personal Care Home for their excellent care. As per Don's wishes, there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rolling River School Division Education Fund, P.O.
