ALICE FIDLER (published on July 25, 2009)

ALICE FIDLER (nee GESWIN) Peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, Alice passed away at the age of 81 during a short stay at Selkirk and District General Hospital. Predeceased by her husband Albert, daughter Diane Wagner and her siblings George, Fred, Nettie, Dave and Martin, she will be lovingly remembered by her surviving children Albert (Judy) Fidler, Janice (Bob) Sims, Connie (Marcel) Weinmeier and Sheri Crighton (Clifford); son-in-law Bernie Wagner; grandchildren Chris, Mark, Curtis, Brandt, Ramsey, Tennille, Sterling, Cyndi, Ciji, Shanyce and Micaela; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Born in Winnipeg, Alice was first employed at Eaton's as a switchboard operator where she met her lifelong friend Lillian Anderson to journey through life's highway with. She married Albert in 1948 and moved to Selkirk in 1950 where she would remain to raise her family. After all children were in school she started working again as a Healthcare Aid at Selkirk Mental Health Centre, remaining there until her retirement. She continued to help others as a crisis centre volunteer which gave her great satisfaction. She loved nature, always had at least one animal in her house and painted nature and animals as a hobby. After illness did not allow her to live on her own in 2004 she moved into Red River Place where she enjoyed herself in the company of others and endeared herself with staff with her precocious personality. Special thanks to all the staff for making her remaining years satisfying. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Alice's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 27 at Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk with Pastor Brad Elliott officiating with reception to follow at the Selkirk Legion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
