FRANK IGNATIUS VAN LEUSDEN Frank passed away in Victoria, BC on March 2, 2009. Her was born in Bodegraven, Holland on August 5, 1912. He is survived by his wife Phyllis, grandson Ken Van Leusden (Monica Gil), son-in-law John Bernik, sister Gertie McKinnon and many nieces and nephews and their families. Frank was predeceased by his wife Margaret (nee Dafoe) and his two beloved children Russell Van Leusden and Lorna Van Leusden. Frank spent his childhood in Holland and Belgium before his family immigrated to Canada in 1925. After a brief stay in Montreal, the family purchased a farm in Manitoba. After a couple of years of poor weather and crops, the family relocated to Winnipeg where they ran a boarding house. At a young age, Frank helped in his brothers' (Tom and Harry) trucking business. During the Depression Frank spent many years working in the gold mines of Northern Ontario and Manitoba. He made many lifelong friends and met Margaret at this time. They moved back to Winnipeg and Frank was employed by Armstrong Insulation Co. In the early 1960s they relocated to Calgary as Frank became the Regional Manager for Armstrong. Frank suffered a heart attack and since that time he became committed to a rigorous physical activity program that saw him attend the Victoria YMCA up until the day before he entered the hospital. In the 1970s Frank started his own company, ACE Insulation and it became very successful. After Margaret died in 1982, Frank sold the business and retired. Frank met Phyllis Button and moved to Victoria after their wedding in 1984. They had many enjoyable years travelling, boating, salmon fishing, gardening and going to the YMCA.
