EDITH LYONS (published on August 08, 2009)

EDITH LYONS It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Edith Lyons on Sunday, July 26, 2009 at age 92. Her children, Ted and Ellen were by her bedside. She had been in good health and spirits right to the end when she suffered a heart attack. Edith lived a full life surrounded by family and friends who loved and adored her. Her positive attitude and great sense of humour were traits that endeared her to all. Edith graduated from Home Economics at the University of Manitoba in 1935. She married Ruvin Lyons in 1940 and they had 52 wonderful years together. Edith was a woman of the 50's and was totally involved in the lives of her husband and children. Edith had a close group of friends with whom she organized and participated in endless volunteer efforts. She cherished her time spent with dear friends playing canasta and was an accomplished bridge player. Edith was never judgmental and could look past the superficial and into a person's heart and soul. She was quick to forgive and never stopped giving of herself and her love. She loved life and she loved people. She was a real lady. Her passing is from a world surrounded by her friends and family to a life eternal with her beloved Ruvin, parents Hyman and Bessie Hecht, brother Archie Hecht and sister Ann Kasow. Edith is survived by her sister-in-law Ida Hecht. She leaves her children Ted and Harriet Lyons, Ellen and Howard Goldstein, grandchildren Mara and Sheldon Zipursky, Sami Lyons, Jon Goldstein, Amy and Stacey Cohen, and great-granddaughters Hannah and Anna and Rosie to carry on her legacy of kindness, humour and love of life. Our gratitude is extended to the doctors and staff of the Grace hospital, Home Care, and the wonderful staff at the Portsmouth and especially Esther, Emma, Remy and Merlyn. Edith always said that she was one of the lucky ones but it is we whose lives have been enriched by her presence that really were the lucky ones . Funeral service was held on Monday, July 27 at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue with Rabbi Alan Green officiating. Pallbearers were Stacey Cohen, Hart Jacob, Jonathan Goldstein, Sami Lyons, Mara and Sheldon Zipursky. Donations in Edith's memory may be made to the Ruvin and Edith Lyons Memorial Fund at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, Academy Road and Wellington Crescent, 204-452-3711 or to a charity of your choice.
