THOMAS MOCK (published on August 08, 2009)

THOMAS MOCK, Ph.D. September 7, 1960 - August 1, 2009 Our beloved Thomas passed away suddenly, at the young age of 48 years, on August 1, 2009 at his home in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia. His unexpected passing has left all of his family, friends and colleagues with a profound sense of loss and grief. At the time of his passing, Tom was head of the Department of Pathology at the Children's and Women's Health Centre of British Columbia as well as an Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia. Tom was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba and obtained his Bachelor and Masters of Science degrees as well as his Ph.D. (pharmacology) from the University of Manitoba. He then completed his post doctorate studies in London, Ontario and his residency in clinical bio-chemistry in Edmonton, Alberta before assuming his current position in Vancouver. Tom is survived by his loving wife Marianne and his adored son Andreas. He also leaves his mother and father, Robert and Hilde as well as his sisters Connie (Richard) Pope and Corinne, brother-in-law Walter (Eva) Schmidt and his devoted nieces and nephew, Courtney (Corey Chambers) and Melissa Pope and Lukas and Lisa Schmidt. Tom is also survived by his extended family and many friends and colleagues. Tom was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and uncle. Marianne was the love of Tom's life and together they shared 22 years of a loving and happy marriage. He was a caring father to his son Andreas and cherished the time they spent together. Tom was so proud of Andreas. Tom's love of life and his tremendous sense of humour never failed to shine through to touch the lives of all he knew. His love for his family was second to none and our sense of loss too great to express in words. Tom was an accomplished and knowledgeable professional. His dedication and perfectionism was clearly apparent to all those who dealt with him and whose lives he touched on a daily basis. He loved to teach and was a gifted orator. He also loved to travel and made many friends along the way, all over the world, who will never forget his kindness, love of life, wit and sense of humor. He lived a very full and satisfying life although he left us far too soon. Dearest Tom, we will never forget you and will love you forever. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Tom's life will take place on Saturday, August 15, 2009 commencing at 1:00 p.m. at the UBC University Golf Club, 5185 University Blvd. in Vancouver.
