ROBERT (BOB) JOHNSON (published on August 08, 2009)

ROBERT (BOB) JOHNSON 1935 2009 Bob passed away on August 6th at the Riverview Health Centre. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 45 years Grace and their three daughters, Shannon (Paul), Lee Ann (Gord), Dawn, their one year old grandson Will, and his sister Carole (Tom). Bob was born on September 14, 1935 and grew up in Fort Garry. In 2000, after 42 years of service, he retired from Cargill Ltd. where he was Director of Human Resources. In his retirement, he set up his own consulting business working with clients such as Sunshine Village and the Forks North Portage Development Corporation. Throughout his life, Bob was involved in sports. In his early years, he was a top ranked badminton player. He enjoyed playing tennis, squash, golf and skiing. These were things he did with friends, but most enjoyed doing with his family. Playing doubles tennis with his three girls, and golfing all over Canada with Grace were some of his favourite times. He loved organizing family reunions, and baseball games at Victoria Beach. The annual bean bag toss tournaments in the fall, and again in the winter to welcome in the New Year, were legendary. Bob served on many boards and volunteered with many organizations - Rossbrook House, Winnipeg Harvest (Sage House), Agape Table, President of Victoria Beach Cottagers Association, The Winnipeg Squash and Racquet Club, and Canadians Helping Kids in Vietnam to name a few. He made a journey with Grace to Vietnam in 2008 to see first hand the schools that were built with donations from Canadians. Bob's sense of commitment to his family and friends, sense of fair play, whether on a tennis court or in a business meeting, and his sense of humour will be remembered by all who knew him. A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Wednesday August 12, 2009, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 830 North Drive. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in his memory may be made to The Rainbow Society, 303-1 Wesley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4C6 or Agape Table PO Box 26111, Maryland RPO, Winnipeg MB R3G 3R3.
