MICHAEL YAREMUS (published on August 08, 2009)

MICHAEL YAREMUS It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Yaremus on August 4, 2009 at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 86 years. He is survived by sisters Dora Hladun, Mary Goad (Harry), Jean Martin; brothers Adam (Irene) and Steve (Helen); nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents Alex and Tillie Yaremus, infant sister Olga, as well as by nephew Robert Yaremus. Mike was born February 28, 1923 in Skylake, MB. From very young, he displayed a love of farm life while helping on the family farm. Later, he moved to live with his brother Steve and his family to help on the turkey farm during the summer months and then to cut pulp during the winter. Mike was a farm hand in the Arborg area before moving to live with his sister Jean Martin and her family to help on their farm. Though Mike worked hard during the week, he played equally as hard on weekends. He would drop whatever he was working on to be sure to be in the house by 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays to listen to his Zabava. Ukrainian music would overlap any other noise in the house for hours. Mike was always ready to put his card playing skills on display. He was very competitive so he always played a mean game of Hola no matter what age of his opponent. He let his great-nieces and nephews know from very young that they were no match for him. Mike loved visiting with family and talking about the good old days. He loved flying and going to visit his sister Mary (Harry) in Hamilton, ON or to visit his niece Diana (Chris) in Victoria, BC. Mike's love of animals was always shown especially during spring time when the cows were calving and the young poultry would arrive. A private family service will take place at Arborg (MacKenzie) Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Skylake Cemetery in care of Ted Sumka, Box 302, Arborg, MB R0C 0A0. Mike will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and appreciated his kind and gentle nature. Arborg (MacKenzie) Funeral Home in care of arrangements
