ALICE MARIE VAN DAMME (published on August 14, 2009)



ALICE MARIE VAN DAMME (nee HUTLET) January 30, 1933 August 11, 2009 Peacefully, on Tuesday August 11, 2009, surrounded by love of family, Alice was lifted by angels from earth and earthly darkness into a bright new world. She leaves to reflect her legacy her husband of 58 years, Gerard, treasured and devoted children: Yvonne (Gerard) DeSmet, Agnes (Gerald) Messner, Arthur (Leanne), Donald (Laurie), Edward (Diane), Elaine (Rhéal) Trudeau, 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; brothers Lou (Rita), Robert (Gean), sisters Isabelle (Romeo) Choquette, Irene (Alex) Grenier, in-laws Venise and Marjorie Hutlet, Esther Verstraete, Elizabeth DeSmet, and Irene (Albert) Claeys. She was predeceased by her parents Victor and Jeanne Hutlet, brothers Marcel and Edouard, sister Simone (Walter) Van Damme, parents-in-law Maurice and Idalia Van Damme, brothers-in-law Marcel Verstraete, Leon DeSmet and by one granddaughter Brigitte Grenier. Alice was born, raised and educated in Bruxelles, MB. She married Gerard Van Damme on October 17, 1950 and they settled in the St. Alphonse/Cypress River MB area. She lived her life with integrity, commitment and unconditional love for her family. Alice valued friendships made through her involvement in the community activities in which she lived. She was a warm and welcoming hostess. Alice's battle with pancreatic cancer was not an easy one but she would respond to the tears around her with don't worry, I will be all right. The family expresses their deep gratitude to family, friends, who lend their support by encouragement, prayers, etc. Home Care and Swan Lake Hospital staff for their devoted and compassionate care. A Celebration of Life will be held in the St. Alphonse Catholic Church on Monday August 17, 2009 at 10:30 am, followed by Mass of the Christian Burial with Father John McKenzie as Celebrant. Interment will take place in the St. Alphonse Parish Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made in Alice's memory to the Cypress River Area Foundation, Box 86 Cypress River MB R0K 0P0.
