(JON) IRVING KARDAL 1928 - 2009 After a courageous battle with cancer (Jon) Irving Kardal passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 12, 2009 at the age of 81. He leaves to mourn and will be greatly missed by his wife of 59 years, Nanna, and his family: Marie (Gordon) Kanne, Kris (Wanda), Lorna (Jim Pyle), Bruce (Kristin), Wayne (Wendy), and Sharon (Klaus Schroeder). He was a very proud Afi to 19 grandchildren and Lang Afi to 14 great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his sisters Connie (Sandy) Gushway, Kristine Savoie (Bill Gillis) and sister-in-law Pauline (Larry) Cass as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents Thorstein and Lilja and brothers Hilmar and Arnold. Irving was born in Langruth, Manitoba and moved to Arnes at the age of two. He started fishing at the age of 14 with his Dad. In 1950 he married the love of his life and they moved to Selkirk, where he worked for Brown's Bread and Lake Land Dairies. In 1953 they moved to Gimli where he worked for Joe's Plumbing and Heating; Saunders Aircraft and then for 25 years with the Manitoba Government of Services retiring in 1991. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gimli Lutheran Church. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Service will terminate at the church. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to Irving's care and especially to the Selkirk General Hospital for his care during his final days. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Manitoba Cancer Society or a charity of one's choice in Irving's memory. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
