NORMAN LAURENCE YOUNG (published on August 15, 2009)

NORMAN LAURENCE YOUNG It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Norman Young on Monday, August 10 at the Lions Personal Care Centre, two days before his 77th birthday. Norman was the son of the late Edward Laurence Young and Frances Isabel Young (nee Hanson). Left to honour and cherish his memory are his son Grahame (Laurie), Grahame's mother Roselea, and three grandchildren Matthew, Lauren and Hayley. He will also be mourned by his younger brother Colin (Jocelyne) of Winnipeg as well as his many cousins scattered across Canada and the U.S. Norm grew up in River Heights and attended both Queenston and Robert H. Smith Schools. In addition, he graduated in an Auto Mechanics Course at the Manitoba Technical Institute. Norm was also a lifelong and devoted member of St. Andrew's River Heights United Church. Norm lived his entire life in Winnipeg, Westhawk Lake and Falcon Lake. He worked for the family business, Maple Leaf Rubber Stamp, from 1956 until his retirement in 1998. He shared the responsibility of running the company with his Mother (Frances) until 1980 when she retired. He was a devoted son to his Mother as he visited her daily in Tuxedo Villa from 1988 until her death in 1994. Norm loved going to the lake from the time he was three years old until recently. He cherished the relaxed lifestyle, enjoyed working on a variety of projects, and spending time there with his family (especially his adored grandchildren). Although his very close friends have passed on in recent years, Norm enjoyed his time at the Manor and Charleswood Adult Day Clubs. Many thanks to the staff and residents at the Lions Personal Care Centre and Sterling House for making Norm's last years carefree. Public viewing took place at Thomson Funeral Home on Thursday, August 13th, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A private internment was held at Brookside Cemetery on Friday, August 14, 2009. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manor Adult Day Club, 320 Sherbrook St. Winnipeg, MB R3B 2W6.
