LISA CHRISTINE GROENING (nee GREVSTAD) December 28, 1956 - August 11, 2009 Peacefully on August 11, 2009 at home with the love of her life, her loving, caring and always devoted husband Mark at her side, Lisa left her husband and her life she so dearly loved. Lisa was predeceased by her loving grandmother Elsie Pickens, father-in-law Stan Groening, cousin John Peters. Left to mourn Lisa as a wife, daughter, friend, sister, cousin, aunt, niece are her husband Mark Groening; mother Jean Grevstad; father William Grevstad; great friend Debbie Crampton; sister Debi Lysenko (Jasmine, Krishan, Mykyka); step-brother Glenn Knudson; cousin Jeff Grevstad; mother-in-law Trudy Groening, (Corinne, Dion, Audrey, Laura, Angie, Sheryl, and their spouses and children), nieces, nephews and cousins too numerous to mention. Special mention to Cody Forsman and uncle Jerald Grevstad. Lisa had been foster mother to Keith Allard, Chris Adams, Eddy, and Dean amongst others and had always kept special memories of them. Sincere acknowledgements of love and thanks to friends who have meant the world to Lisa and who have given of their love and time through this most difficult of time. Lisa gives her love and thanks to BFF Debbie Crampton, friend and sister-in-law Audrey Joyce, cousin Rose Anne Zacharias, friend Leslie Pare, friend Christine Sokaluk, and all those who visited. Lisa and Mark thank all of the nurses, technicians, staff and volunteers at CancerCare MB and Riverview Health Centre 3E. Thank you to Dr. Ahmed, Dr. St. Godard, Dr. Sharif and Dr. Harvey Lee and all his devoted staff. Lisa grew up moving a lot. Her family uprooted her to various homes in Toronto and Montreal then later when Lisa moved out as an adult she continued this wanderlust for adventure for a short while, but realized she preferred stability and chose to live in Winnipeg. Lisa was proud of her Norwegian roots and her Grevstad family of which she didn't see enough of the Winnipeg Clan. Lisa was a Registered Nurse and felt lucky to have the best nursing job possible. She was truly very happy to be working at Health Links, where she met many a true friend and worked with the nicest group of nurses possible and appreciated and admired her manager Jan Carroll immensely. Lisa had attended Sturgeon Creek Regional Secondary School, U of M, U of W, RRCC and then had a calling to the nursing profession where she attended the Misericordia School of Nursing. Many a happy memory was made during those years, the most cherished memory of her nursing school years was the importance of meeting her dream man Mark and getting married, all while achieving her goal of becoming a R.N. Mark was truly Lisa's dream man come true! Lisa loved shopping and collecting, whether it be shoes, purses, designer clothing or vintage decorative items for the home or re-sell. Lisa and BFF Debbie enjoyed their dining out and shopping adventures and a lot of gabbing on the phone over the years. Theirs was a very close, trusting and enduring friendship that if you're extremely lucky comes along once in a lifetime. Lisa cherished Debbie as a friend. Lisa's happiest memories are of home life spent with Mark, most recently the tropical paradise created in their backyard. Lisa and Mark were forever remodelling their house, turning it into their dream home. They took winter Caribbean trips together to sit and play by the ocean and explore the sights. Swimming with the Dolphins brought tears to Lisa's eyes. Many summers were spent in secluded Whiteshell cottages with their dogs Dottie and Chester, who were loved like no other dogs could be. Those two dogs helped Lisa get through some very tough times (mostly Dottie). Lisa had been through many difficult times through her entire life but it was all worthwhile after finding her everlasting true love and she was always grateful for the ability of true strength in love. Lisa and Mark especially thank everyone that have prayed for us to give us strength and support throughout this fast and hard battle. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2009 between 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 8:00 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1111 Southview Drive, Winkler, Manitoba. Interment will follow in Westridge Memorial Gardens. Flowers gratefully declined.
