RIGHT REVEREND PROTOPRESBYTER SERHIJ KICIUK Fr. Serhij fell asleep in the Lord on September 3, 2009 at Holy Family Home in Winnipeg, MB. He is survived by his wife Halyna, daughter Maria and granddaughter Daria. Fr. Serhij was born on September 10, 1921 in Ludyn, Volyn, Ukraine into the clergy family of V. Rev. Myron and Dobr. Paraskeva (Chmil) Kiciuk. Fr. Serhij completed the Pedagogical Institute in Lutsk, Ukraine. He took pastoral courses at the consistory in Kremyantsi, Volyn, Ukraine. During the war years he was in Germany and went to the Theological Academy in Munich. From Germany he moved to England to work. He was married to Halyna Yahnushevska on February 23, 1951 in Halifax, England. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 10, 1951 at the church of St. Simon in Parish France by Metropolitan Polikarp. Their daughter Maria-Myroslava was born in 1953. He served parishes in Bradford and Halifax in England from 1951 to 1958. In 1958 they moved to Canada, where Fr. Serhij was accepted to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada (UOCC) and was assigned to various parishes in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. In 1974 he received his Licentiate of Theology from St. Andrew's College in Winnipeg, MB. He served on the Consistory Board, worked in the Mission Department and with the radio program, Voice of the UOCC . Fr. Serhij was awarded many elevations for his pastoral work in the UOCC culminating with the title Protopresbyter. In 1997 he retired and was attached as Priest Emeritus to St. Mary the Protectress Sobor, Winnipeg, MB. A special thank you is extended to the staff on St. Paul's Unit and to the Pastoral Care Department for their sensitive, personal and compassionate care. Funeral Rite for a Priest will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at St. Mary the Protectress Sobor, 820 Burrows Avenue. Hierarchical Divine Liturgy and Funeral Rite conclusion will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at St. Mary the Protectress Sobor. Interment to be at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary the Protectress Roof Fund. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
