RON NICOLAS (published on September 24, 2009)

RON NICOLAS On September 16, 2009, surrounded by family and friends, Ron bid adieu to this world. He was 61 years old. He was predeceased by his parents Henri and Fernande (nee Masse) Nicolas. Ron was born in Steinbach and grew up in La Broquerie. Farm life instilled in him a sense of pride, hard work and responsibility. In his early years, Ron learned from his parents the virtues of honesty and courage. Physical strength and mental perseverance shaped his outlook on life. Upon graduation, he went up North where he developed a great love for nature. He later returned to Winnipeg to complete his studies at the University of Manitoba: B.A., B. Ed., M.A. He taught for many years, dedicating his life to teaching his students the importance of acquiring knowledge for success. He himself was a virtual walking encyclopedia'. After retirement, Ron worked for five years at Malach C L Co. until his illness. Ron was a thoughtful, loving, independent and sensitive man whose greatest love in life was his family. He published two books during his life. He always had a particular fondness for the wilderness and spent many hours hiking, camping and canoeing in the Big Whiteshell and Nopiming Park with his family and friends. He also enjoyed travelling abroad. Ron will be forever loved and remembered by his wife, Jane and his two children, Michael and Caroline. He also leaves to cherish his memory, four brothers and two sisters, Gerard (Olga), Angeline (Lou), Guy (Roselyne), Claude (Simone), Raymond (Gisele), Helene (Bruce). A special thanks to the Nicolas family for their love and support during this difficult time, especially to Claude and Simone. And a heartfelt appreciation to dear friend Jane for always being there. Deep gratitude also goes to Drs. Eisenstat, Seftel, Sun, Maslyak and the GD 6 Staff particularly, Kristian for their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place.
