CLARENCE FINGLAND (published on September 24, 2009)

CLARENCE FINGLAND Peacefully, on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the Lundar Community Health Centre, Clarence passed away at the age of 83 years. His parents, Ernest and Mary, as well as his brothers, Jim and Ed, and his sister Winnie predeceased Clarence. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Mabel; his children, Barb, Bryan (Dorothy), Doug (Connie), Darrel (Rhonda), his grandchildren Jason (Leanne), Hayley, Shaun, Andrew, Derek, Devon, Layne, Lindsey and Brittany and by his two great-grandchildren, Melanie and Amy; as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Dad was born November 19, 1925 in Winnipeg and was raised in the Clarkleigh area until shortly after his father's passing when the family moved to Winnipeg. Later he returned to Clarkleigh where he met the love of his life Mabel. They were married September 29, 1951 and lived first on Beverley Street in Winnipeg. In 1952, they moved to Lundar with their new baby girl and later back to Clarkleigh, where they kept a small mixed farm. Dad spent most of his working life driving, first with his partner and lifelong friend Bill Foster as F F Transfer. During this time, they hauled milk and later gravel. From 1966 to 1977 he operated Fingland Redi-Mix Concrete and during these years he was also driving his school bus, until his retirement in 1991. Dad was very proud of his 25 years of service driving the school bus. He truly enjoyed getting to know the children and watching them grow into young adults, many of whom he maintained friendships with throughout the years. Dad enjoyed his gardens, playing cards, going to bingo and just having a coffee with friends and neighbours. He loved to make mischief, tease, and laugh along with his friends and family. His greatest pleasure came from simply spending time at home with his family. As we grew up and moved away, we often spoke of how we would come home for a weekend and he would be waiting for us at the kitchen table with the cards dealt. At which time, we would play several games of cards and have a long talk about what was going on in our lives. The love of Dad's life was Mom; they were married almost 58 years and built a wonderful life together. The family would like to express our thanks to Dr. Burnett and to the staff at the Community Health Centre for the love, care, and patience given to Dad during his time there. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at the Lundar Legion Hall, with Melanie Kauppila officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to service at the hall. Interment to follow at the Clarkleigh Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gordon Fingland, Jason Smith, Shaun Fingland, Derek Fingland, Layne Fingland, and Andrew Fingland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 4G2.
