ARTHUR HUNTER (published on September 24, 2009)



ARTHUR HUNTER May 25, 1923 - September 21, 2009 It is with sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of Arthur Hunter after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. He leaves to mourn his wife of 57 years, Dorathia; children, Marilyn Jonasson (Norm), Gordon (Dawn), David (Margaret), Janet Giese (Daryl), and grandchildren, Krista, David, Lesley (Kevin), Janaya, Renelle, Brendan, Lauren, Kyle, and one great-grandchild Sabrina. Art was the youngest of nine children. He is survived by his sister, Ruth Malkoske and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Augusta and John Herntier, brothers John, Edward, William, George, and sisters Martha, Emily, and Dorothy. Art was born in Whitemouth area and grew up working on his parents' farm. In 1947 he and brother Edward went into partnership with the farm. In 1951 he moved to Winnipeg and was employed at several jobs before settling into a career at Motor Coach Industries in 1956. He retired in 1988. He married Dorathia Recksiedler on September 19, 1952 and was blessed with four children. He was a devoted husband and father, always putting his family and friends first. He was a gentle, generous and well-loved man with a smile and sense of humour. He enjoyed music and was self-taught on violin, banjo, and harmonica. He enjoyed playing at many barn dances in his younger years and with family and friends at gatherings. Art was a great handyman, who loved woodworking, inventing gadgets, and fixing just about anything. For recreation he enjoyed camping, golf, curling, and playing pool. As a young adult, he joined the Canadian Order of Foresters. He was an active member of Sherwood Park Lutheran Church, having served on council and several committees over the years. Thank you to the caring staff of the 3rd Floor Concordia Place Care Home, for their kindness and compassion. Viewing will be held from 6:30 p.m.to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 24 at Sherwood Park Lutheran Church, 7 Tudor Cres. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 25 at Sherwood Park Lutheran Church. A private family interment will take place that morning. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Art's memory to the Sherwood Park Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 7 Tudor Cres.
