GERHARD (GEORGE) BORN (published on September 26, 2009)

GERHARD (GEORGE) BORN On Thursday, September 24, 2009, our much loved Dad/Opa stepped into the presence of his Lord in the same way he lived his life, peacefully and quietly. Left to cherish a loving father and Opa are daughters, Carolyn (Frank) Friesen and Lena (Dave) Kublick; grandchildren, Ruth, David, Darrin, Mark, and Carly; and many nieces and nephews in Canada and Germany. Gerhard was predeceased by his loving wife of 42 years Katie in 2002, his parents, five sisters and four brothers. Dad was a gentleman in every sense, with a love for his family, for challenges and helping others, going for long walks, for literature and for music; he was a weekly guest conductor for any symphony he had tuned in to. He was a man of integrity, hardworking and selfless, generous and patient and a faithful steward of what God had given him. Dad served people as a barber until he was diagnosed with macular degeneration. Our family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the exceptional staff at Donwood Manor for the love, and care, kindness and compassion you showed in caring for our Dad/Opa - you will not be forgotten. A celebration of Dad's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Elmwood MB Church, 145 Henderson Hwy. Light lunch to follow. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Cemetery. Donations may be made in Dad's memory to Mennonite Central Committee, 135 Plaza Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3T 5K9.
