DORIS KATHLEEN OLIVER (published on September 26, 2009)

DORIS KATHLEEN OLIVER (nee EGAN) A lovely, lively lady left the stage on September 18, 2009. Her charm and sparkling personality will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She leaves Arthur, her loving husband and friend of 60 years, daughter Catherine (Bill Burke) of Baker Settlement, Nova Scotia, son Gordon (Pat) and granddaughter Carolyn of Brossard, Quebec and daughter Suzanne (Bob Miller) of Tsawwassen, British Columbia and grand-daughters, Michelle of Vancouver and Renae of Tsawwassen. She is also survived by her sister Edith Pindar of Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her only grandson Jeffery Oliver. Dorie was born in Winnipeg on May 16, 1926, moved to Pierrefonds, Quebec in 1960 and finally to Tsawwassen, BC in 1996. She was devoted to her family and to serving others. Her volunteer work started as a teenager in Winnipeg during the Second World War when she was part of a show entertaining troops. In Montreal she was a coordinator for Daffodil Day for the Canadian Cancer Society for which she received a special citation, participated in and later organized fund raising fashion shows and was a key member of the Lakeshore General Hospital Auxiliary. In Tsawwassen she became an active volunteer at the Kinsmen Centre serving on committees, organizing fashion shows and fulfilling her ultimate destiny as an entertainer with the Kinsmen Kickers and with the choir where her Hello Dolly and Second Hand Rose routines will long be remembered. In recent years she orchestrated the transformation of the Kinsmen Thrift shop into the Unique Boutique. Our sincere thanks to all of the health and home care personnel whose excellent support allowed her to stay at home. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Delta Hospice Society would be appreciated. A celebration of Dorie's life will be held on Thursday, October 8 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Kinsmen Recreation Centre in Tsawwassen. Ladies, wear hats if you have them and don't forget your dancing shoes.
