PHILIP GILBERT GZEGOTSKI (published on September 30, 2009)

PHILIP GILBERT GZEGOTSKI Peacefully, on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at the St. Boniface Hospital, Philip succumbed to his courageous battle with cancer at the age of 79. Philip was born in Gimli, Manitoba on October 29, 1929. He attended Willow Creek School where he met his future wife Mary and they spent 55 beautiful years together. Philip farmed and worked for Red River Road Builders as a cat operator with his brother-in-law Mike Olyarnick. He also worked at the air force base in Gimli as a driver and at the RM of Gimli until he retired in 1989. He spent countless hours at Performance Powder Coatings helping his sons build their business. Philip was a true naturalist; his love of birds and trees was the joy of his life. Philip was an avid sport fisherman and this love has been passed onto his sons. They have spent many a summer day on the boat in Washow Bay and with his lifelong friend Doug Hill at Willow Island. Philip was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Pauline; sisters Caroline and Josephine; brother Stanley and brothers-in-law Nick and Dino. He is survived by his loving wife Mary; daughter Teresa (Greg); sons David and Peter. He is also lovingly remembered by his beloved grandchildren, Amanda, Matthew (Teresa), Joshua and Samantha (Peter); brother Walter (Kay); sister Alice; brother-in-law Mike (Dolores), Ed (Nancy), and Peter (Linda); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 2, 2009 in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Gimli, Manitoba at 2:00 p.m. with Father Art Seaman officiating. A warm thank you to the staff at the Gimli Hospital and St. Boniface Hospital 7A West for their gentle care and compassion. Honorary pallbearers are Anton Biluk, Mike Olyarnick, Peter Zazulinski, Edward Ratz, Doug Hill, and Bob Malik. In lieu of flowers please plant a tree or hang a bird house in his memory. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
