BARBARA LILLIAN HUZARSKI (published on September 30, 2009)

BARBARA LILLIAN HUZARSKI 1938 2009 On Friday, September 25, 2009, at the age of 71 years, our beloved Wife, Mom and Grandma passed away peacefully after a short but yet courageous battle. Barb was born in Winnipeg on March 19, 1938 and grew up in Elmwood and the North End of Winnipeg. She attended Sir Isaac Newton High School where she met her husband, Richard. Barb and Dick were married on July 19, 1958 and shortly thereafter, Barb began her career as a secretary with Maple Leaf Mills in Winnipeg where she revealed her drive, determination and kind and caring ways which she displayed in all aspects of her life to all family and friends. After a brief period as business owners with her husband and her parents in Pilot Mound, MB, Barb and Dick settled in and made permanent roots in East Kildonan. Barb's place was always the congregating point for family and friends and Barb was known for being the consummate hostess and entertainer. Her dinner parties were always over the top . Barb was an avid gardener and also had numerous pastimes that included cooking, baking, needlepoint, knitting and also computer games. After her retirement, Barb discovered the world of travel and both Barb and Dick travelled to both coasts of Canada and to the Gulf of Mexico as well as many places in-between. There were also the trips to Hawaii and Europe where Barb and Dick shared many happy moments of retirement. Barb was the planner and the organizer and would always ensure that everyone around her was happy and content and this characteristic stayed with her until the end. Barb will be sadly missed yet fondly remembered by her husband of 51 years, Richard; her two sons, Jim and his wife Evelyn and their daughter Sarah, Dan and his wife Lisa and their daughter Megan. Barb also leaves to mourn her passing her brother Gary and his wife Karen and she also leaves behind her Mom, Kathleen (Kay) Brooks of Winnipeg. A very special thanks to the staff of the Concordia Hospital, Unit N1 and to the staff of St. Boniface Hospital, 7th Floor south for the tremendous care and respect given to Barb during her brief battle. A memorial service to celebrate Barb's life will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will follow at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined and donations can be made in Barb's memory to either CancerCare Manitoba, 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg or to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200 310 Broadway Ave. Winnipeg.
