ALAUNIA EILEEN MAY GRIFFIN (published on October 03, 2009)

ALAUNIA EILEEN MAY GRIFFIN (nee McCarthy) May 1, 1927 - September 29, 2009 It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Eileen on September 29, 2009. Eileen was predeceased by her parents Frances Joseph McCarthy and Annie (nee Cooper), two brothers Bill and Charlie and grandson Trevor. Eileen leaves to mourn her loving husband of 62 years Leslie (Jim), her children Ken (Liz), Alaunia Frances (Bob), Brian (Lynda), and Leslie (Maureen), sisters Gwen (Earl), Peggy and Rorie, grandchildren Michael (Kim), Andrew (Jennifer), Daniel, Kevin Ashlee, Lindsey and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Eileen was born in England and came to Canada as an infant, being baptized by the Captain of the ship RMS Alaunia enroute. The family settled in Sprague, Manitoba and moved to Winnipeg in the early 1940s where Eileen worked for the Bank of Montreal. Later years saw her working in a dental office. Eileen's happiest times were spent at the cottage at Ingolf, Ontario leaving friends and family with so many treasured memories of her open-hearted hospitality. Eileen loved her flowers, and was able to tackle any craft that came along. Eileen's life was filled with music and laughter, which drew people of all ages to her home throughout the years. One of the many great joys in Eileen's life were her grandchildren. Their every activity was special to her. Viewing to take place from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2009 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2009 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home. The family would like to thank the Coronary Care Unit at the Health Sciences Centre and the many staff who cared so kindly for Eileen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eileen's name to the charity of your choice. GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 982-7550
