SHIRLEY DOREEN COCHRANE (nee VILLENEUVE) (SHIRLEY-JOHN) July 16, 1941 October 3, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley-John Cochrane of Fisher River Cree Nation, on October 3, 2009 after a short battle with Cancer. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 47 years John Cochrane Sr. Her son Allen (Myrna), daughter Laura Pratt (Stacy), son Charles, son John-John (Dolly); grandchildren, Aaron (Beaver), Samantha, Renelle, Jordie, Shane, Alyssa, Dusty; Ian James, Kaytlin, Taylor; Lyndon, Kayla, Reno, Tianna, Emma, Theo; Garrett, Adam, Kyle; great-grandchildren, Semiah, Braydon, Brandt. Aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews; one brother-in-law Bernie Robinson and family of Maryland, U.S.A.; sisters-in-law, Mabel Oye and family of BC, Illa Bird and family of Peguis; auntie Helen Boyer and family of Chitek Lake, Saskatchewan; Godchildren, Andrea (Bird) Young, Sharon Langlois and all her adopted grandchildren. Shirley was predeceased by her daughter Josette, infant daughter Lesley Dawn, father Francis Villeneuve, mother Josette Olafson, stepfather Ole Olafson, sister Helen Robinson, brothers, Ernest and Jackie Villeneuve, father-in-law Andrew Cochrane, brother and sister-in-law Leslie and Margaret Cochrane and auntie Toni Leach of the Pas, Manitoba. Shirley was a dedicated homemaker and fisherman's wife. She had many hobbies and was very talented with her hands, always making things and giving them to family and friends. Shirley enjoyed watching hockey over the years, first her sons then her grandchildren. She had a talent for writing poetry and sharing her words of wisdom. Later when all her kids were grown, she went out on the lake with John and later obtained her own fishing license. She had a knack for making people laugh young and old. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to thank the Doctors and Nursing staff at the Health Sciences Centre and Percy E. Moore Hospital for their compassionate care. Thank you to her special friend Sister Agnes for her support and prayers. Special thanks to auntie Darlene (mom's cousin from The Pas) and to auntie Illa and auntie Mabel for the support during our difficult days. Thank you to Fisher River Cree Nation Chief and Council and family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cancercare Manitoba Wake service will be held on Friday, October 9, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Both services will be held at the Steven's Memorial United Church, Fisher River, Manitoba Reverend Erin McIntyre Officiating.
