ALBERT JOHN (BERT) PILGRIM December 2, 1923 - October 6, 2009 It is with deep sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Bert on October 6, 2009. He is survived by his wife of almost 62 years of marriage, Winnie. In addition to his wife, Winnie, Bert is survived by his daughter Joan and her children, Kelcie and Kurtis Terrick of Winnipeg; his son Greg, wife Bev and their children John and Jenny of Winnipeg; sister, Grace Ralkie of Vancouver; sisters-in-law Nancy Woods, Ethel Kullman and Becky Gibson; brother-in-law Pat Milne. He will also be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives and good friends. Bert was predeceased by his sisters Sadie Milne, Peggy Flye, brother Ted Woods and brothers-in-law Dave Gibson and Almer Kullman. Born in Winnipeg, December 2, 1923, Bert attended Cecil Rhodes School, dedicated 37 enjoyable years of his life working for the Manitoba Telephone System both in Winnipeg and Portage La Prairie. Taking early retirement in 1979, he remained active with his various hobbies of travel, photography, electronics, computers, and dedication to the Life Member Club of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Bert served in the R.C.A.F. during the Second World War both in Canada and England. He is a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Past President of the Portage la Prairie Chamber of Commerce, Administrator of the Life Member Club of Chapter 50 of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Recently, Dad was honoured at the SR Reunion for his development of the MTS Service Rep Centers. Bert always enjoyed life to the fullest, had a passion for learning and had a great sense of humour. Bert also said many times that living at the Concordia Village where he spent the last year of his life was like going to heaven without dying. The family wishes to thank all the residents and staff for making Bert so happy at that stage in his life. He will be missed by all his McDonald friends and Telephone Pioneer acquaintances. If you wish to join in the celebration of Bert's life, there will be a reception on Saturday, October 10th at 11:00 a.m. at Royal Canadian Legion, 920 Nairn Avenue, Winnipeg. A private interment will be held at a later date at the Last Post mausoleum at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends so desiring may contribute to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice. Dad, you have given so much of yourself without expecting anything in return. You are the best father anyone could have and you are loved more than words can say.
