LILA ETHEL BURGESS (published on October 14, 2009)

LILA ETHEL BURGESS It is with great sadness, we announce that Lila Ethel Burgess (nee Grieve) passed away peacefully, October 6, 2009 at Grace Hospital. Lila was predeceased by her parents, Oliver and Ruby Grieve and two brothers, Alvin and Elmer Grieve. Lila leaves her adoring family: devoted husband Albert and four children: Caroline (Glenn), Bob (Debbie), Garry (Michelle) and Kathy (John). Her grandchildren, who always put a smile on her face: Heather, Dianna, Julia (Justin), Joni (Jeffrey), Jessica (James), Bernie, Stephen, Victoria and Shawna. Her life was blessed with six great-grandchildren: Isabella, Lucas, Clover, Alexandra, Kaylee and Hannah. She is also survived by two sisters, Vivian (Ike) Prokaska of Ottawa and Edna (Gordon) Kennedy of Forrest, Manitoba, many nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends. Lila was born May 29, 1930 and grew up in Lauder, Manitoba. She married Albert Burgess, her beloved husband of 59 and one half years, settling and raising their family in St. James. Lila had a lifelong passion for horses and as a teenager had her own horse, Bud. She was keenly interested in genealogy and along with her close cousin Myrtle Grieve, spent years tracking family history. More recently, she enjoyed solving the daily Jumbles. Lila was cheerful, loved life and cherished living in her own home despite the enormous challenges of being afflicted with MS for over 50 years, a remarkable tribute to the loving care provided by her soulmate, Albert. Lila's true joy was her family. She really enjoyed each family gathering and visit. Her smile would light up the room whenever she was with her loved ones. She will be sorely missed by all who loved and knew her. Thank you to her special Homecare providers, Deanna, her volunteer helper; and Alicia for her ongoing friendship and help. The family would like to thank the Grace ICU staff for their compassion and humane care. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Suite 100 - 1465 Buffalo, Fort Garry, MB R3T 1L8 or a charity of your choice. Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. with viewing one half hour prior at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
