KATIE SWITZER (published on October 14, 2009)



KATIE SWITZER On Friday, October 9, 2009 after a brief illness, Katie passed away at the age of 100 years. She leaves to mourn her three daughters, Edith Kidner (Art), Kathleen Shesterniak (Boris), and Lorraine White and sister Mary Petro. She will also be dearly missed by her grandchildren Janice, Kate, Barbara, Dawn, David, Paul, Lynne Angie and Sandra, her thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Kate was predeceased by her husband Sid in 1967, her son Arthur in 2000, and an infant daughter Irene in 1932. Katie was born in Poland on June 6, 1909 and came to Canada at the age of two. She grew up in Fisher Branch, Manitoba. Kate was married in 1925 and they moved to Winnipeg a few years later. Katie was an avid gardener and she and her sister Mary spent many summers at Fisher Branch tending their brother Harry's gardens. She was also very good at crafts such as knitting, sewing, crocheting and needlework. Katie was a fantastic cook and baker. She loved spending time at the lake fishing with her husband and family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, across from Brookside Cemetery. The family would like to thank the River East Personal Care Home for their wonderful care of Katie, especially Annette, Amy, and Anne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation or to a charity of your choice. Katie will be greatly missed by everyone who loved her.
