MARYON PARKER (published on October 14, 2009)

MARYON PARKER (nee MCKAY) With her family by her side Maryon Parker passed away peacefully on October 9, 2009 at Vista Park Lodge. She was predeceased by her husband Harold Parker, brother Braith McKay and parents Ken and Isobel McKay. Maryon will be sadly missed by her son Jim (Pam), sister Iris Chester, niece Lori Patrick (Dave), Scott and Graeme Patrick, nephews Frank Chester (Theresa), Chris Chester and Gord Chester (Lois). She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews in the U.S. and cousins in Canada. Maryon was born in Melfort, Saskatchewan in 1930 and grew up in many small rural Saskatchewan towns before moving to Winnipeg in the 40s attending Mulvey and Gordon Bell schools. A fond part of Maryon's life was spent with the RCAF Airwomen in the early 1950s and in recent years she was able to reconnect with friends at the Airwomen's reunions. In Winnipeg she met and married Harold in 1959 and had son Jim in 1962. Her employment was varied and included time with Crippled Children, the Volunteer Bureau and the Manitoba Association of Social Workers. Her last position before she retired was as an office assistant with Canadian Professional Hockey Schools. Maryon's many interests included family holidays throughout North American with Harold doing 100 percent of the driving, McKay Clan reunions to southern Ontario and birding trips to Winnipeg's surrounding parks. She also enjoyed cross country ski trips with friends and outings to the casino. Friends eagerly anticipated Maryon's annual Christmas letters full of wit and humour, some of them touching on her hate for cooking but her love for baking. She moved to Vista Park Lodge in 2008 and the family would like to thank them for their superb and compassionate care. A celebration of Maryon's life will be held on Friday, October 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Parkinson Society of Manitoba, 7 - 414 Westmount Drive, Winnipeg, MB R2J 1P2 . THOMSON IN THE PARK 925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
