EVELYNE SIMONSON (published on October 23, 2009)

EVELYNE SIMONSON Evelyne Simonson, aged 88 years, passed away peacefully, on October 20, 2009 at Carman Memorial Hospital. Left to cherish her memory are her son Gerald, daughters Delores (Harold) Velie, Darlene (Larry) Funke, and Debbie (Darko) Reischek, 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grand-children and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters Laura Krebs, Doreen Johnson, Joyce Davis, Eleanor (Doug) Vanderweyde, Mary Woods and Viola (Fred) Wilhelm, sisters-in-law Audrey Simonson and Agnes Hawkins and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Cecil, daughters-in-law Diane, Doris, granddaughters Robin Velie and Allison Funke, brother Jack Hawkins, and sisters Dorothy Schulte and Mabel Garn. Evelyne was born to Orvan and Mary Hawkins in 1921, the second child in a family of nine girls and one boy, and grew up in the Elm Creek area. She married Cecil in 1941 and lived on their Fannystelle farm until 1974. Evelyne was always busy helping on the farm with feeding hired help, boarding many of the local Maplestead school teachers, gardening and working on her fancy work. She also worked at Central Park Lodge in charge of housekeeping for ten years. Her home was always open to visitors where the coffee and cookies were plentiful. Her generous heart, her hard work ethic and her never ending energy will be missed. The family wishes to thank the doctors and wonderful staff at both Carman Memorial Hospital and Boyne Lodge for the excellent care mom received during her time there. Your heartfelt care was appreciated. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 24 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Lawn Chapel, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. with Pastor Ed Mitchler officiating. Committal at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Should friends so desire, a donation in Evelyne's memory may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba or Boyne Lodge. Doyle's Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
