JOHN WALTER ROBB (published on October 24, 2009)

JOHN WALTER ROBB Peacefully with his family by his side on October 12, 2009 after a battle with cancer, John Robb passed away at the age of 80. He was born on November 30, 1928 to John and Edith Robb in the St. Boniface Hospital. The youngest of three children, he was raised and received his education in Leifer district of Manitoba. He was a third generation John Robb. In his younger years he farmed with his father and worked for various farmers in the Westbourne/Macdonald area. He also worked as a hunting guide at Lakewood Country Club. On July 20, 1963 he married Bernice Mae Kittner and together they raised two sons, Keith and Ken. Dad's greatest expression was me and my boys . John and Bernice bought the family farm. He and his brother William continued to farm both cattle and grain and commercial fishing together the winters on Lake Manitoba. John always looked forward to going deer hunting. He loved to dance and loved to spend what ever time he had to be with his boys. Last fall John and Bernice sold the farm and this past January moved into their home in Portage La Prairie. John lived for his four grandchildren and his great-grandchild. John was predeceased by his parents, sister May and brother William. His memory will be forever cherished by his loving wife of 46 years Bernice; sons, Keith (Shelly), Ken (Madelene); grandchildren, Alaina (Mike), Leah, Tanner and Alyssa, great-granddaughter Shianne plus mother-in-law, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and support staff at the Portage General Hospital for all the extra effort, support and comfort that was given to John during his stay. Funeral service was held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Friday, October 16, 2009 with Jona Weitzel officiating. Eulogy was given by Sylvia Rogers and Dennis Robb. Musical selections; Amazing Grace , Just a Closer Walk With Thee , The Old Rugged Cross , and O Lord It's Hard To Be Humble were performed by Harley and Ellie Anderson. Everyone in attendance was considered honorary pallbearers. Flower bearers were Alaina Robb, Leah Robb, Alyssa Robb and active pallbearers were Tanner Robb, Mike Verwey, Wiley Edwards, Richard Rogers, Chas Kittner and William Robb Jr. Interment followed at Hillside Memorial Park. As an expression of sympathy, if friends so wish, memorial donations may be made in John's name to Central Plains CancerCare, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage La Prairie, MB R1N 0K8. A tribute DVD in memory of John will be produced by the Omega Funeral Home.
