GEORGE ERIC RUSSELL (published on December 19, 2009)

GEORGE ERIC RUSSELL George Eric Russell passed away peacefully on December 16, 2009 with his partner Margaret McDevitt at his side. George was born in London, England on October 28, 1923. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother who died in the Second World War and his wife Dorothy in 2000. George met his wife Dorothy in South Africa, while on a flying mission in the Second World War. They were married in 1946 and George worked for BOAC, stationed in Montreal. He and Dorothy became Canadian citizens and George's love of flying and airplanes led him to obtain his Aeronautical Engineering degree from McGill University. He worked for Canada Air (Bombardier) for 18 years and during that time his work took him to several European countries and he and Dorothy had the opportunity to live in Scotland, Italy and Turkey. George had many entertaining stories to tell about their experiences during this time. They returned to Canada in the 1970s and George eventually took a position with Bristol Aerospace in Winnipeg , where he worked until his retirement. George and Margaret met in 2002 after losing their respective spouses to cancer. They spent seven happy years together. George will be remembered as a warm and generous man who became a part of Margaret's family and a good friend to her children, Kim (Brian), Kerry (Gary), Kathy (Jeff),and Michael and to her grandchildren. In addition to Margaret and her family, George is also survived by a sister, Nora Masterson, in England and members of Dorothy's family in South Africa. He will be greatly missed by everyone. A private family service will be held. Flowers are gratefully declined and donations can be made in George's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7 Chapel Lawn 885-9715
