PAULINE GRACE MASON (published on December 30, 2009)

PAULINE GRACE MASON It is with great sorrow we report the passing of Pauline on December 26, 2009. Pauline will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her mother Sally Mason, uncle Pops Johnson Mason, aunts Mary Madeline Harper, Lucy Wood and Pauline Wood Steiman (husband Rodney), and her many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends from Winnipeg, St. Theresa Point and Island Lake. Pauline was born August 22, 1957 in Norway House shortly after the death of her father, Toussaint, who died in a boating accident. Pauline contracted Polio at the age of three and was hospitalized in Norway House and later at the King George Hospital in Winnipeg. She went home to live with her mother Sally until age nine; was hospitalized again at the King George until age 12; lived with the McDonald family until she was 18 and then moved back with her mother until her death. Pauline did not see herself as disabled, rather as a person with different abilities. Pauline graduated with Grade 12 from Grant Park High School and then took business administration from Herzing College. She was employed by Reaching E-quality Employment Services for many years and recently attained a full time position with the Province of Manitoba, Department of Justice. Pauline was very proficient in American Sign Language and was an interpreter for persons with speech and hearing impairments. She was also an excellent wheelchair bowler. Pauline was a caring person always mindful of the need of others. Thank you to those who cared for Pauline during her brief illness and to everyone who looked out for her during her lifetime. Donations may be made in memory of Pauline to S.M.D. Viewing from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 31 at St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2400 Portage Avenue; funeral mass will be celebrated immediately following with interment at Brookside Cemetery, Winnipeg.
