JAMES (JIM) GOTTFREDSEN (published on January 02, 2010)

JAMES (JIM) GOTTFREDSEN September 8, 1932 - December 27, 2009 It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Jim Gottfredsen on Sunday, December 27, 2009 at the Victoria General Hospital. Jim was born in Vilslev, Denmark, the third child of five siblings. He moved to Canada in 1951 for a two-year adventure that never ended. After working a number of construction jobs in Northwestern Ontario, Jim settled down in Winnipeg and married Helen Ross in May 1965. Jim worked in the I.C.U. of the Health Sciences Centre until 1972 when he moved the family to Winkler, MB where he bought the Stanley Hotel. Jim ran the Stanley for three years while he worked on the design and construction of the new Winkler Motor Inn, his pride and joy, which he owned and operated until 1991. Following his retirement from the hotel business, Jim moved back to Winnipeg, settling in the Osborne Village area. Jim worked as a personal care giver at Sharon Home. Following his retirement he enjoyed going for walks, socializing, evenings out dancing and meeting for coffee with his friends in the Village. In later years, Jim enjoyed meeting his daughter Susan and his beloved grandson Ransom for afternoon lunches or coffee. Bestefa always had a big bowl of ice cream waiting for Ransom back at his apartment when they finished. Jim was predeceased by his wife Helen, brother Gottfred, and sisters Johanna and Lise. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Susan Gottfredsen and Robert Henderson of Coquitlam, BC; son Bryon Gottfredsen of Edmonton, AB; grandson Ransom Henderson; brother and sister-in-law Lief and Myrtle Gottfredsen of Winnipeg; brother-in-law Truels Sorensen of Ribe, Denmark and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and Denmark. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff on the fourth floor and I.C.U. at Victoria General Hospital and a very special thanks to Jim's friend Marion McDonald. In keeping with Jim's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial reception will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2010 on the main floor at 64 Nassau St. N. Interment of ashes will take place in Denmark at a later date.
