OPAL LOUISE JASTER (published on January 02, 2010)

OPAL LOUISE JASTER With sadness, but great thankfulness for her life, the family announces the peaceful passing of our dear Grandma Opal. She was a wonderful mother, sister, and loving grandma to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Opal was born in Parkston, South Dakota on January 17, 1916 and moved to Canada at three years of age. Her family settled in Morris where she remained for her entire life. Besides her many family activities she had many accomplishments. She was an excellent seamstress and we proudly wore her many creations. A life member of the Women's Institute, she spent countless hours in community work always thinking of everyone else and their needs. Her church played an active part in her life and her actions and thoughts always portrayed her deep spirituality. As her physical and mental capacities weakened in recent years she still maintained her sunny disposition and positive outlook on life. She enjoyed her years spent at Red River Valley Lodge and we are truly grateful for the wonderful care she received. We believe that she gave everyone more than she expected to receive. Opal was predeceased by her husband Auguste. Left to remember her fondly are her three children, Arden, Beverley (Fraser), and Dorothy (Andrew); her grandchildren Chris, Pamela, Robin, Kimberley, Michael, and Trevor; and her six great-grandchildren. She will be missed by her loving sister Mabel and many nieces and nephews. Grandma Opal was true to her name. A real precious jewel. We will treasure her selflessness, her devotion to all of us, but most of all her sweet smile. God bless you Mom! A celebration of her life will take place at the Lutheran Church of the Cross at Morris, MB at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 8, 2010. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Cross Memorial Fund, the Valley Regional Library, or the Red River Valley Palliative Care Program (payable to R.R.V.H.D.F.)
