ALLEN STANLEY DAWSON Peacefully on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Concordia Hospital, Allen Dawson passed away at the age of 70 years. Born October 8, 1939 in Winnipeg. Al is survived by his loving wife Pat (nee Belasco); children, Michael, Ken, Tim and Kathy; grandchildren, Krissy, Sara, Kyle, Katie and Taylor and brother Doug of B.C. Allen was predeceased by parents Christine (nee Hart) and Richard Dawson and siblings Pearl and Dick. Although Al was a social butterfly, with many friends and acquaintances, he requested there not be a service. Instead he would like his friends and family to honour him by remembering him as he was and in happier times...showing off his twisting skills on a dance floor, suave and smooth, boots polished to a high sheen, tie and cuff links just so. Cracking a joke or gently teasing the people he cared about the most. Al had an entrepreneurial spirit, in some cases bringing forth ideas and products which extended beyond what others could see at the moment. He was self employed for the greatest part of his working years and enjoyed many leisure activities, from boating, fishing and hunting to bowling, golfing and curling. With an easygoing manner and keen wit, he effortlessly made many lifelong friends along the way. Al and Pat began their lives together when they were very young, she an innocent young beauty and he a 'greaser' with a good heart. Barely grown up themselves, they started a family and worked hard at building a better life for their children. Married for 46 years, they are a glowing example of working together, through all of the curves in the road of life, to honour their commitment to one another. Mom has likened finding your life partner to finding the right pair of shoes. They fit well, they don't hurt and they are comfortable. Dad was a keeper. Our family believes flowers should be strictly reserved only for happy occasions and will respectfully decline any which may be sent. Instead, we ask that you consider supporting palliative and hospice care by making a donation, in Al's memory, to Hospice and Palliative Care Manitoba 2109 Portage Ave. Winnipeg, Manitoba R3J 0L3.
