EVANGELINE WOOD (nee TOKAR) On December 18, 2009, Evangeline passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Centre after a short battle with cancer. Eve was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend whose kindness and warmth touched everyone. Eve was born on October 28, 1925 in Winnipeg. She grew up in Weston attending Cecil Rhodes and Daniel McIntyre schools. After graduating from high school, she honed her secretarial skills at Success Business College, which led to jobs at Allan, Killam and MacKay insurance broker and later in personnel at Eaton's Polo Park. She met many wonderful people throughout her career at Eaton's and remained in contact with them after her retirement. Her colleagues would often comment that she was so easy to talk to whenever they needed help of any kind; it truly was a job that she thoroughly enjoyed. Eve met Dennis at Grand Beach, which sparked a grand love affair that lasted 62 years. After marrying, they settled in St. James, lived for a brief time in Edmonton and most recently at Dakota House in St. Vital. Eve loved to babysit her grandchildren, entertain family, neighbours and friends, garden, play bridge, golf, travel, cook, bake and be crafty with sewing, knitting, and ceramics projects. Eve is lovingly remembered by her husband Dennis, daughters Wendy Wood (James Pascoe) and Jo-Anne MacCoy (Gabe Kovacs), son Wayne (Bonnie), grandchildren Christopher Wood (Breanne Bishop), Adam Wood (Jennifer), John Mason, Brenlee Sippel (Greg), and Victoria Sutherland (Trevor), great-granddaughters Taiya Sippel and Charlee Wood, great-grandsons Austin and Logan Bishop, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her father Samuel, mother Sophia, brother William, and sisters Nell Butterill and Anne Stewart. The family would like to thank Darcy Bartlett and the Home Care team for their kind and compassionate care, Kris Springer and the Palliative Care team, and the doctors, nurses and staff at CancerCare Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Evangeline's memory to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation (www.cancercare.mb.ca), ON 1160 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. Eve always had a positive outlook on life. A service in honour of her life will be held on Friday, January 8, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg.
