WILLIAM (BILL) CAITHNESS (published on January 04, 2010)

WILLIAM (BILL) CAITHNESS It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of William (Bill) Caithness on December 31, 2009. Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Torchy; his son Randy (Coleen); grandchildren, Shannon and Ryan (Johanna) and son Gary (Kathy). Predeceased by his parents, Alex and Lillian; sisters, Eileen and Sybil; and brother-in-law Wally Payne. With Bill, family was first. He loved family gatherings, especially spending time with Shannon and Ryan. Bill was born in Winnipeg and joined the Air Force during the Second World War. While stationed overseas at No. 6 RCAF headquarters in Northern England, he met the sweet girl from Sault Ste Marie. Upon returning to Canada, Bill and Torchy were married and were fortunate to return to England many times to the place where they fell in love. Bill's other love was sports. Bill participated in numerous sports, while overseas and after returning to Canada. He particularly enjoyed playing hockey, baseball, basketball and golf. When Bill could no longer play, he could be found watching his favourite teams, the Chicago Cubs, Black Hawks and Bears, eagerly awaiting the friendly banter that took place with his sons about all the sports. Bill was proud to be a founding member of North Kildonan Community Club, starting the Club out of his basement. He was involved in acquiring land for the club and started the building of the club where it stands today. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street at 2:00 p.m. We owe a great deal of gratitude to the loving, caring nursing and recreational staff on Station 3 in Tuxedo Villa for their compassionate care of our dear Bill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Rest In Peace Dad Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
