ROSS ALEXANDER MCKENZIE (published on January 04, 2010)



ROSS ALEXANDER MCKENZIE 1910 - 2010 With sadness we announce Ross A. McKenzie passed away peacefully in his sleep on the first day of his 100th year, January 1, 2010, at the Calvary Place Personal Care Home. Ross was born in St. Boniface on December 31, 1910. He was predeceased by his wife Cicely (Goswell) in 1990, whom he married in 1950, and by his sister Louise in 1991. There were no children. He will be sorely missed by his nephew Robert King and his wife Noella of Edmonton, his sister-in-law Dorothy White of Winnipeg, his friend Chris Kennedy and several friends in the Kiwanis Chateau. He attended Norwood and Killarney Collegiates. He completed his Grade 12 in the Collegiate Division of Wesley College in 1930. In 1935 he graduated from the University of Manitoba in Civil Engineering. In 1942 he completed a diploma course in Education for his Principal Certificate. He taught at various schools in south-western Manitoba. In 1945 he joined the staff of the Manitoba Highways Department, where he remained until his retirement in 1975. Upon his retirement he was presented with the Meritorious Service Award by Premier Ed Schreyer. Ross was a member of the Salvation Army for many years and remained a faithful supporter until his death. He was a generous donor over the years to many worthy causes close to his heart. Ross lived the last two years of his life at Calvary Place where he was cared for by gentle angels such as Janet, Danielle and many others. Thank you all very much for your compassionate care and devotion. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson's Funeral Chapel, 669 Broadway. The service will be conducted by Pastor Justin Bradbury of Southlands Community Church. Cremation and committal to follow at a later time. Donations may be made in Ross' memory to either the Southlands Community Church or to Calvary Place, 1325 Erin Street, Winnipeg, R3E 3R6. Flowers gratefully declined.
