JOHN TURK It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of John Turk on December 31, 2009 at 88 years of age. John will be missed by Harriet, his wife of 65 years; children Lorraine (Michael), Karyn, Jack (Karen); grandchildren Curtis, Patrick (Melanie), Colleen (Chris), Terryl (Greg), Chris, Jamie, Sean and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Walter and Gilbert and son-in-law Ken. John was born in East Kildonan. He served in the Air Force during the Second World War. He had numerous occupations, working at Winnipeg Cartage (Commonwealth Construction) and Red River Construction; owned Silver Birch Resort at Moose Lake, MB; sold Real Estate and owned a taxi. Volunteering was an important part of John's life. He will be fondly remembered as the greeter at Immanuel United Church's Annual Fowl Supper. The family would like to thank the staff of Donwood Manor, 2 South for the loving care John received. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Immanuel United Church, located at 755 Golspie St. at Kimberly Ave., with Rev. Nancy Sanders presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Immanuel United Church Mission and Service/Memorial Fund, 755 Golspie St., Winnipeg, R2K2V4, or to a charity of your choice.
