THOMAS (TOM) MITCHELL (published on January 05, 2010)

THOMAS (TOM) MITCHELL It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, papa, brother and uncle. Tom passed away peacefully at his home in the early hours of January 2, 2010 surrounded by his loving wife and family. Tom is survived by Vicki, his devoted wife of 59 years, his children Charmaine (Pat) and Terry (Annette); grandchildren Raye-Leigh (Rene), Genevieve (Kris), Amanda, Riley and Harlyn; six great-grandchildren; sister Jean (Nick) of Michigan and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Mary Mitchell; brother William and sisters Nettie, Anne and Irene. Tom resided in East St. Paul for 56 years, living the last three years at Middlechurch on the Red. He worked briefly as a sheet metal worker in the aircraft industry then began farming which was his passion. While farming, he drove a school bus for the River East School Division for 13 years until he retired. Tom was an honest and generous man who lived his life with quiet integrity. He took great care of his family, home and property. He will be sadly missed. Special thanks to his homecare attendants for their dedicated service, to the Selkirk RCMP Detachment, to the West St. Paul Emergency Response Unit and Dr. Shawn Thomas for his excellent care. Prayers will be held on Tuesday, January 5 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 6 at 10:00 a.m. also in the chapel. Interment will take place in the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Gonor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Hospital or to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Gonor c/o Edward Pawluk, Box 19, Group 326, RR3, Selkirk, MB, R1A 2A8.
