MARIE-ANGE (RICARD) LONGMUIR (published on January 06, 2010)

MARIE-ANGE (RICARD) LONGMUIR Peacefully at the Eriksdale Personal Care Home our mother and grandma passed away in the early morning hours on January 3, 2010 at the age of 102 years. Marie was born on October 5, 1907 in St. Jean Baptiste, MB. She was raised there, one of 10 children born to Alexina and Severin Ricard. In 1925, she married Allan Longmuir and with him started a long and happy married life. For the wife of a Railroad Man in those days, life was not easy. They moved many, many times, often living in poor conditions with no running water or electricity. With seven children to raise, everyday life could be a challenge. Marie was up to it, working hard to make ends meet and enjoying life along the way. After her children were grown and gone, she remained closely involved with their lives and families. Marie enjoyed travelling, going overseas twice to Hawaii, California, and Mazatlan. She enjoyed playing cards and games, especially Rumoli, reading, and needlework. Marie was a good cook and loved to have her family gather for a meal. Marie always had a youthful exuberance for life, which helped her to maintain relatively good health for most of her 102 years. Marie was proud of her French heritage and spoke the language whenever she got the chance. She had a wonderful sense of humour and was always game for an adventure of one sort or another. Many of her descendants credit their own Joie de vivre to her. She was affectionately known to her nieces and nephews as Aunty Mary. She leaves to mourn her six children, Pauline Lundale, Ralph (Anne), Allan, Raymond (Cindy), Dorothy (Paul) Bilodeau, Robert (Pat), her son-in-law Arthur Forsyth, 20 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years Allan A. Longmuir in 1982, a daughter Gladys Forsyth in 2005, son-in-law Robert Lundale in 2003, grandson Gerrie Lundale in 2005, great-grandson Brandon Eskra in 1996, as well as her nine siblings. Mass will be held on Friday, January 8, 2010 at St. Erik's Catholic Church in Eriksdale, MB at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. R. Golfcheski officiating. Service will conclude at the church. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Eriksdale Personal Care Home for their wonderful care of Marie during the 13 years she lived with them. Mom's wishes were to decline flowers for her service and please make your donations in her memory to St. Erik's Parish, Box 190, Eriksdale, MB R0C 0W0. Arrangements by: ARNASON FUNERAL HOME Ashern - Lundar 1-204-768-2072 or 1-866-323-3593
