FREDRICK STABNER March 18, 1931 - January 5, 2010 It is with deep sorrow the family announces the passing of Fred Stabner, aged 78 years of Ashern, on January 5, 2010 at the Lakeshore General Hospital. Fred leaves to mourn his wife of 54 years Irene; a son Skipp (Betty); daughter Linda; daughter-in-law Joyce; grandsons Scott (Mandy); Sean (Michelle); great-grandchildren Andrew, Amiley, and Halley; brothers Reg (Ruth), Ernie (Lucy), Art ( Carol); sisters-in-law Ella, Marge and Rose, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his father Adolph and mother Amanda; son Todd January 6, 2007, son-in-law Mitch January 16, 2007; brothers Harry, Charlie, Albert, Herb, Eddie, as well as sisters Emma and Lydia. During his younger years Fred's work had him travelling to other provinces. Mining in Ontario, building hydro towers with Comstock, and building the RCAF base at Gypsumville with Bird Construction. He also farmed his father's homestead, and spent the last 25 years of his working days as a stationary fireman for the Graymont at Steeprock, MB, Local 575 Boilermakers, retiring in 1996. Fred was an exceptionally strong quiet man with many hidden talents. During his retirement with failing health, his yard and flowers were his pride and joy. He loved the compliments he always received from passersby. He will be missed by his younger friends for the great stories he told. The family wishes to thank Dr. Rawoof for her gentle kindness. We also wish to thank the caring nurse and aides, who gave him comfort. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday January 9, 2010 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Ashern, with Pastor Mark Just officiating. Service will conclude at the church with burial to be held at a later date at the Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ashern Hospital Guild, care of Julie Bergner, P.O.
