GEORGE EMERY KELEMEN (published on January 08, 2010)

GEORGE EMERY KELEMEN Suddenly on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at the age of 59, George passed away at the Grace Hospital. Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 30 years, Janet; daughters Bev (Morris) and Joyce (Gord); sons Wayne (Leslie) and Rick (Sheryl); mother Julia, mother-in-law Verna, brothers, sister and their families as well as many extended family members and friends. George was predeceased by his father Louis and granddaughter Brittaney. George was born in Portage La Prairie, November 17, 1950. He was the eldest son of Julia and Louis. He was raised on the family farm along with his three brothers and sister. He received his education at Langruth. Upon leaving home George set out for Thompson where he worked in the Nickel mines. Upon return from the Great White North he worked at the Amaranth Credit Union and Sandy Bay School. In 1976 he moved to Winnipeg and secured employment at Interprovincial Co-op where he worked for 30 years, until his retirement in 2006. George met and married the love of his life on August 4, 1979. Together he and Janet raised four children, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, who were his pride and joy. George loved all sports and over the years participated in baseball, hockey, golf, bowling and curling. He had an infectious sense of humour and could be seen or heard teasing somebody at any time of the day. George's most cherished times in his life were those spent with his family, young and old alike. No one who met him could deny the kind, compassionate person he was. Special thanks to the Cartier Paramedics, Grace Hospital Staff, co-workers at Elie Esso and all family and friends. Funeral prayers will be held at John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, 3390 Portage Ave., 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 8, 2010. Funeral Mass will be held at John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, 3390 Portage Ave., 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 9, 2010 with Father Gerald Langevin officiating. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Family gratefully declines flowers. A donation to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation in George's memory would be greatly appreciated.
