Mother was predeceased by her parents Wasyl (1956) and Anna (1953) Smook, husband, Charles (1974), brother John (1982), sister Mary Andrusyk (1999) and brother Stephen (2001). Mother was born on April 15, 1910 on her parents homestead on Section 8 Township 3 Range 5E, Senkiw Post Office, Manitoba. Her maiden name was Wasylena Smuk. Mother married Charles Nowalsky in 1927 and lived on the farm near Senkiw. In 1944 they moved to Winnipeg with their family. After two years they moved back to the farm until 1960 when they moved to Dufrost. In 1965 they purchased their retirement home in Winnipeg. Mother's life's journey had many challenges and struggles. She was a hard worker, always with our father, whether it was farming or working in her home. After our father's passing, Mother stayed in her home in Windsor Park, grew beautiful flowers and always had a bountiful garden. Mother enjoyed her crocheting and her works will be treasured forever. Mother traveled to visit family in the U.S. and Canada and looked forward to having family visit her. She always enjoyed her children and grandchildren at the many family get-together's they shared. In 2002, Mother was no longer able to stay at home. She moved to the Vista Park Personal Care Home on an interim basis till early 2004 at which time she moved to the Meadowood Personal Care Home and resided in their care. A very special thank you to the management and staff at Meadowood Manor. We really appreciate the care and affection you gave to our Mother. We would like to extend an invitation to Mother's Prayer Service on Monday, January 11, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg, MB (204-982-7550). A private family Interment will follow at a later date at the Senkiw Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Miron Pozniak officiating at Prayers and the Interment. Mother was an active member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Nativity of St. Mary at Senkiw, MB, the Church her parents and other Senkiw pioneers built in 1921. Mother always appreciated her flowers and they will be gratefully accepted or donations can be made to a charity of one's choice. |
