MALCOLM DONALD MACLEOD (published on January 09, 2010)

MALCOLM DONALD MACLEOD 1925 - 2010 Malcolm passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Centre on January 4, 2010 at the age of 84. He was a proud and intelligent man and a loving husband and father. He is survived by his loving wife Bernice, his daughter Siobhan Tremblay (Kenneth) and his son Rory Macleod with his grandsons, Liam and Sean. He will also be remembered by his several nieces and nephews, Heather Maureen Clare and Gia Couture (Raymond) of Winnipeg, Linda (Brian) Allanson, John (Maureen) Mitchell of Portage la Prairie and Bruce Mitchell of Winnipeg. Sorely missing him will be his cousin and friend, Ann Mounce. His sister Mary Nelson predeceased him in 1999. Malcolm was born on May 10, 1925 in Winnipeg. He attended Daniel McIntyre School and graduated from the University of Manitoba (Architecture) in 1947. He lived in several cities as he started his career as an Architect including Montreal, Cincinnati, Regina and Edmonton. He established his private practice in 1952 and later joined Public Works Canada where he continued to work until his retirement in 1991. Malcolm's parents were born on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland and he was proud of his Scots Gaelic heritage, often telling his children about the clan and family background. His main joy was art. He had painted since being a child and explored various aspects from sculpture to painting over the years. He exhibited many of his works in local galleries and continued to paint well into his retirement. He also had a love of music including listening to many of the Jazz legends and playing his saxophone and clarinet. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 11, 2010 in the Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street. Following a reception, interment will take place in Kildonan Presbyterian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts made in memory of Malcolm Macleod may be made to the Faculty of Architecture Endowment Fund and made payable to the University of Manitoba We love you Husband, Father and Grandad.
