MARIE VITALINE JOHANNA (DOLLY) CARRIERE (published on January 09, 2010)

MARIE VITALINE JOHANNA (DOLLY) CARRIERE (nee DESJARLAIS) Our beloved Aunty Dolly passed away on January 6, 2010 at Tache Centre in Winnipeg at the age of 102. She leaves to mourn nephews Don Desjarlais (Bunny), Wayne Desjarlais (Helen), nieces Lynn Riel (Louis) and Evelyn Ducharme and many great nieces and nephews and their children. She was predeceased by her husband Alph, seven brothers (Francois, Antoine, Edmund, Louis, Frederic, Elzear and Andre) and six sisters (Eleonore, Marie-Rose, Marie-Anna, Josephine, Alphonsine and Veronique). Aunty Dolly was born in Woodridge, Manitoba on November 28, 1907. In her lifetime she lived in many different places but her heart was always there. It was in Woodridge that she first met Alph where he told her Some day Dolly, some day . It was in Winnipeg where they met again, married, and began their life together. She had no children of her own but became a mother to six nieces and nephews and a grandmother to their children. To all, she was Aunty Dolly. She was a pioneer, a musician, a knitter and a tatter. She was a collector of salt and pepper shakers, letters, and family memories. She was a reader, a writer and a faithful correspondent. She was a devoted and proud daughter, sister, aunt and wife. She loved us and we loved her. She was our Aunty Dolly. Many thanks to Dr. Mehta, her family physician for many years, and to all of the staff at Tache Centre for the wonderful care they gave her. A very special thanks to the late Lorraine Briggs and her family for their support and love over the years and to Gail Lavalee and Paul and Shelly Girardin for watching over her while she was in Tache Centre. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 11 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Eugene Catholic Church, 1007 St. Mary's Rd. with Father Leo Couture presiding. Interment will follow the mass at the St. Vital Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Foster Parents Plan of Canada, 95 St. Clair Avenue West, Suite 1001, Toronto, Ontario, M4V 3B5.
