KAROLINA (CARRIE) MARY STEFANIUK (published on January 15, 2010)

KAROLINA (CARRIE) MARY STEFANIUK (nee STRUSS) On Sunday, January 10, 2010, Carrie died at the Beausejour District Hospital, two days following her 102nd birthday. Remaining to forever cherish Carrie's memory are her granddaughter, Angela Fiebelkorn, grandson David Fiebelkorn (Jasna Lhoeste); great-grandchildren, Darren Lussier, Deanna, and Jessica; son-in-law, Roy (Eleanor Rach) Fiebelkorn; her sister-in-law Helen (Joe) Struss; and her nephew's children, Danny and Holly Struss. She was predeceased by her husband Henry in 1971; daughter Mary (Roy) Fiebelkorn in 1980; brother Joseph Peter (Helen Duma) Struss in 1998; and by a nephew Robert and his wife Carol (Holowinski) Struss in 1995. Carrie was born on Ukrainian Christmas Eve, January 6, 1908 in Ladywood, Manitoba (S.E. 20-14-8E) to Peter and Annie (Yakimo) Struss. She was baptized at the St. Demetrius Catholic Church in Ladywood, MB on February 2, 1908. She went to school and spent her early years in Ladywood. In her late teens Carrie worked in Winnipeg. She met Henry Stefaniuk, and on November 5, 1929 they were married at St. Demetrius Catholic Church in Ladywood. Together they farmed for 18 years. In 1945, they moved to Beausejour where they opened Stefaniuk's Garage. Carrie and Henry spent many years traveling and were both very sociable, outgoing people, attending many gatherings and parties. She enjoyed gardening and spent many hours with flowers and in the vegetable garden. Lazy summer days were spent picking blueberries, saskatoons, and chokecherries which eventually became jams and jellies. As the years went by, Carrie stayed closer to home, and devoted many years to the Beau-Head Seniors, being very active in that organization. Legion events, senior bowling, dancing, playing cards and bingo took up many years because she enjoyed excellent health long into her 80's. Carrie led a full, prosperous life filled with many blessings and is now with God to enjoy the next adventure. On Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 10:30 a.m., Carrie's Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Home, 437 Park Avenue West, Beausejour, Manitoba, with Rev. Deacon Stefan Tyrawski from Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, as presider. Interment will follow in the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Parish Cemetery.
