G. A. FULLERTON (published on January 16, 2010)
G. A. FULLERTON 1926 - 2010 With heavy hearts we announce that G.A. Fullerton (Jerry) passed away on January 11, 2010, following a lengthy illness. Jerry chose to write his own obituary. As is the case with most people, my life has been a series of highs and lows, but as I reflect back, I increasingly realize that I have been incredibly blessed. I had loving parents who raised me with sound spiritual values that have helped me in the trials and tribulations of my long life. I had a brother and sister who over the years have remained my best friends. I had the love and companionship of three wonderful women: Mary Macdonald, Elizabeth Gault, both deceased, and for the past 14 years, my sweetheart and best friend, Dorothy Howard. Over the past two years of my illness, her tenderness and compassion have been appreciated more than any words could ever convey. Aside from the last few years, I have been blessed with good health and the ability to travel to many interesting places, although none exceeded the pleasure I derived from our many stays at Innisfree, our beloved cottage at Lake Winnipeg. Jekyll Island, Georgia was another favourite home away from home . I greatly enjoyed the 35 years I had with Imperial Oil, the people I met and places I visited, particularly two years spent in Africa. Another aspect of my life that gave me great satisfaction was the opportunity to serve on a number of boards: chambers of commerce, theatre, opera, and community organizations. I have received love and support from my six children and nine grandchildren. An extra bonus of my relationship with Dorothy has been the love and thoughtfulness of her two daughters and their families. Amongst my fondest memories are the countless hours of golf played on a variety of interesting courses. I'm looking forward to playing an easy 3 par course in the not too distant future! Jerry is survived by his partner, Dorothy Howard; his brother John (Marion); sister Mary (Ken); children Lisa, Marni, John (Sandra), Donald (Kim), Mary Elizabeth (Sheldon) and Nancy (Cam), and stepdaughters Rosalyn (Angus) and Laurel (David); grandchildren David, Aleana, Michael, Ceira, Brodie, Beck, Jack, Ian, and Scotia, and stepgrandchildren James, Althea, Graeme, Alexander, and Elena. According to Jerry's wishes, no formal service is planned. Cremation has taken place and a family gathering to celebrate his life has been held. Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Kidney Foundation in Jerry's memory would be appreciated. Memories of our Dad, Jerry Fullerton One of the many things we will always remember about our dad is how he embellished the score at cards, golf, and board games. Dad was a natural storyteller. He loved to hold court. We, as his children, loved to hear his stories about his adventures all around the world. He loved life and he lived it to the fullest. We loved our dad and will miss him deeply. Special thanks to the staff at Riverview Health Centre for the great care of our dad. |
