ESTHER (ESSIE) MARTIN (published on January 16, 2010)

ESTHER (ESSIE) MARTIN It is with deep sadness and grief the family announces the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at the Grace Hospital. Mom was not alone when she passed; she was surrounded by the love of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband, George in 2000, her parents, Sam and Florence Ellis, sisters Florence Harrington and Joyce Storozuk and her brother Sam. She is survived by her children Dale (Mickey), Ken (Kris) of Minneapolis, Barry (Norma) and Kathy (Sam) of Lee River, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, her sisters Clara (Clee) Starkell and Rose Parkin, along with many nieces and nephews. Mom was born in Winnipeg and moved to West Kildonan when she was 18 months old. She lived on Burrin Avenue until she married our Dad in 1948. Our parents bought their house on Armstrong Avenue where we had many happy times. Our Dad had to be placed in Deer Lodge in 1999 and our Mom was placed in Middlechurch Home in 2009. Mom liked to bowl, curl, go for walks and dance, until arthritis put an end to these activities. She then settled for trips in the car, playing bingo and sitting on the deck enjoying the sunshine in the summer. We would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at Middlechurch who made her feel at home and part of their family. Thank you as well to her family physician Dr. Anna Rothova for her care of our mother over the years. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined. Mom would have wanted donations to be made in her memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
