MAUDE GLADYS COPELAND (published on January 16, 2010)

MAUDE GLADYS COPELAND Peacefully at McCreary Personal Care Home, Maude Copeland passed away at the age of 92 on January 2, 2010. Mom was born in 1917 in Rapid City, Manitoba the second daughter of Jack and Gladys Graves. She came to McCreary in 1918 and remained there for the rest of her life. In McCreary, she met and married Roy Copeland. Together they raised four sons. Prior to her marriage, Mom worked as a clerk for Max Kliman in his general store. As her sons grew older, she returned to work for Louie Kliman. When the ownership of the business changed she continued to work for Elwood Harris and then Chuck Morden until her retirement in 1982. Mom's tales of happenings in the store were a source of amusement until her passing. During her life Mom was active in her church, loved cooking, baking and gardening, had a special place in her heart for young people and possessed a lifelong love of learning and adventure. She was always eager to learn a new craft or start a new knitting project. Her trips to London and Abu Dhabi were fondly remembered. Shortly before her passing she was musing about taking keyboard lessons and getting a dog. Maude is survived by her four children Wayne (Josie), Brian (Sue), Alan (Bev) and Barry; her brothers Bert (Lil), Aubrey, sister Mabel (Ray) grandchildren Tom (Martine), Krista (Paul), Jeri (D'Arcy), Melissa, Ryan, Erin, Laura (Brett): great grandchildren Kaylin and Cassidy and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her husband Roy, her brother Fred and his wife Bertha, sister Violet and her husband Art; sister-in-law Florence as well as Roy's brothers and sisters and their spouses. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Anglican Church in McCreary with interment in McCreary Municipal Cemetery with Reverend Bob Bettson officiating. A reception will follow at the Legion Hall. Those so wishing may make a donation to a charity of their choice or St Michaels Church, care of Mrs. M.
