ALICE EVELYN RUSSELL (published on January 19, 2010)

ALICE EVELYN RUSSELL November 8, 1918 - January 16, 2010 It is with great sadness and sorrow that our family announces the passing of our loving mom, grandmother and great-grandmother, Alice Evelyn Russell (nee Anderson). Alice was born in Auburn, Washington, an only child to Murray and Fay Anderson on November 8, 1918. They moved to the Carman farming community in 1920. Alice attended school in Homewood. On September 11, 1934 she married Wilbert (Webb) Russell and they resided on their Barnsley farm until 1984, when they moved to Carman. Alice moved to the Boyne Towers in October, 2006 and enjoyed an active life until her failing health in recent months. Alice was predeceased by her husband Webb; daughter Faye Lougheed; sons Garry, Jim, Dale, and daughter-in-law Peggy Soutar-Russell. She will be sadly missed and her memory will be forever cherished by her children; Blaine (Edna), Halkirk; Ruth Horvath (Alex), Creston; Ron (Joan), Portage la Prairie; Gwen Hingley, Rolling Hills; Janet Braun (Al), Richmond; Bonnie Ressler (Dennis), Kelowna; Gordon (Jacquie), Sperling; Kathy Russell, Carman; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn is Alice's Aunt Dorothy Cook of Bothell, Washington, along with many other relatives living in the USA, as well as a special sister-in-law, Lillian Russell of Carman and many nieces and nephews. Alice was a gentle Christian woman with a loving soul. Her priority was her family and they were greatly blessed by the life of this special lady with unconditional love. She was more than a mother - she was a best friend that they could confide and trust for sage, objective and nonjudgmental advice. As one of her dear friends commented on her passing never a more beautiful and gracious woman I have known . Alice was an active member of the Tracy Homemakers Group for 50 years and hosted the first meeting in February, 1954. After over 50 years of raising funds for charitable donations, this group still gathers today on a more social basis. She looked forward to these meetings with her longtime friends. Alice was active in the Dufferin Agriculture Society; as President of the Ladies Section in 1970 and held the position of Vice-President in 1968 and 1969. Other interests were curling, gardening, especially her flowers and always ready with willing hands for community work whenever called upon. Alice you were a beautiful lady, and we were lucky to call you Mom, Grandma, Great- Grandma' and you will be sadly missed. Love always, your family. The family would like to extend their thanks to the Boyne Towers and Carman Memorial Hospital staff for all their care and attention to our beloved Alice. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Catherine Waldie officiating. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery, Carman. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Alice's memory to the Carman Area Foundation or Boyne Lodge, Carman, Manitoba, R0G 0J0.
