JOHN KRAVETZ (published on January 19, 2010)

JOHN KRAVETZ January 16, 1925 - January 15, 2010 With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father and Gigi on January 15, 2010 at Gimli Community Health Centre with his family by his side. John will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 50 years, Frances; sons, Joe (Linell), Michael (Wendy), James; daughter Donna; grand-daughters, Amanda, Alexa, Melissa and Haley; sisters, Eileen Dudzic, Steffie Hykawy, Anne Firman and; brother Bill (Helen) and numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents, Margaret and Joseph Kravetz; and sister Anna in infancy. John was born January 16, 1925 in Fraserwood. Growing up, John attended Willow Creek School where he developed his love of sports and forged many friendships that lasted the rest of his life. Growing up, he developed a passion for farm life, eventually taking over the family farm where he continued actively farming until his illness. In 1957 John met the love of his life, Frances and they married October 24, 1959. John worked hard and asked for very little in return and always had a special story or joke to share. John's greatest love was spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed company and all were welcome for conversation, cards or a game of horseshoes. He was supportive and active in his children's many sporting endeavors through the years both as a coach and spectator. John also had a lifelong interest in antiques, particularly antique farm implements. John was an active member of the East Interlake Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood and was president and lifelong member of the St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church in North Foley. The family would like to thank and express gratitude to Dr. AlJafari, nurses and caregivers at Gimli Community Health Centre for their compassionate care of John and their kind support to the family. Prayer service will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, Gimli, Manitoba. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. also at the church, officiated by Rev. Fr. Harry Chuckry. Interment will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery, Willow Creek Road. Pallbearers will be Dennis Firman, Bob Hykawy, Randy Kravetz, Jerry Weshnoweski, Mike Olyarnick and Everett Lloyd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Church, Gimli, Manitoba or Gimli Community Health Centre Palliative Care, Box 250, Gimli. We will truly miss you Dad. Thank you so much for all the wonderful memories. Vichnaya Pam'yat (Eternal Memory) Dear Lord, Take a message to our loved one up above Tell him how much we miss him and give him all our love.
