ELEANOR GOLDIE MILLS (published on January 23, 2010)

ELEANOR GOLDIE MILLS (nee McDougall) June 9, 1936 - January 16, 2010 Comforted by the love of her family and friends, Eleanor passed away at Riverview Health Centre after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at the age of 73 years. Left to cherish Eleanor's life and mourn her passing are her loving husband Terry of 48 years of marriage; children, Bobby (Bobbi); Gillian and Lesley (Dave); grandson, Matthew; step-grandchildren, Amanda and Kimberly; brother, Jim (Vi); sister-in-law, Barbara (Werner); and by several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her father, John; mother, Alice, brother George and sister-in-law, Diane. Eleanor had a zest for life which she approached with optimism and humour. She loved to laugh and inspired all those around her to do the same. Eleanor unselfishly shared her generous spirit with everyone for whom she cared. She expressed herself easily but always with consideration. Eleanor never shied away from a good debate and she defined a good conversation as one filled with many interruptions. Family was of utmost importance to her, as she was highly involved in her children's lives. Eleanor loved and cared for, some may say spoiled, her grandson Matthew. She believed there was nothing more important than expressing love and compassion for each other. She took immense pleasure in her many close friendships. They made her burdens lighter and her joy brighter. Eleanor engaged in a wide range of activities. She valued learning and was an avid reader. Being a long time member of Breezy Bend Country Club, she loved golfing. Eleanor belonged to several Bridge groups and was considered a competitive card player. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Breezy Bend Country Club, 7620 Roblin Boulevard, Headingley, Manitoba. The family would like to express their most sincere appreciation and heartfelt thanks to Dr. Russell Albak and Roseanne of the Assiniboine Clinic, Dr. Pat Harris, Kathy, Holly, Debbie and staff at the Grace Hospital Cancer Care Clinic; and Carol Parkinson, RN and staff of Riverview Health Centre, Wing 3E. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Eleanor's name to the Grace Hospital Foundation - Cancer Care, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3J 3M7.
